THE MOWING ADVENTURES

I know that this post is well expected since I have been hinting about it in every blog leading up to this. I have been meaning to mow the lawn every day this week but for some reason winter has come to Utah in june and we are getting a lot of rain and cold weather. I have never used a lawn mower so in true Ann style I asked almost every male in my life there advice and tips on lawn mowing. Yesterday was a mostly dry day so I psyched myself up and built up a game plan in my head. I picked up Ryen stopped by the grocery store and then headed home . I rushed in the house put on my windpants and long sleeved shirts and tennies (seemed like appropriate mowing attire).

I pulled the mower out of the garage and proceeded to push the red button 3 times which sends the gas to the engine. And then I pulled down the hand lever and pulled the string. And what do ya know we were in business. I had mapped out the lines I was going to mow in but after one push I realized that the plan was definitely out the window. My lawn is partly uphill and I am sure my neighbors got a kick out of watching me push the lawn mower uphill at a very slow pace. I have to say that it was a very liberating experience. I was 3/4 done with the lawn when we started getting lightening and thunder. Ryen screams "momma this is dangerous and runs into the house".
Needless to say I have a newly acquired respect for males. Lawn mowing is not as easy as it looks and my body is feeling it today.
I called my cousin last night and bragged about myself and he asked if I had edged the lawn also. Edged? Okay so what the heck is that I ask? He tried to explain but it didn't really make sense to me and I asked my boss this morning and he told me the same generic answer. I think males have made up edging to get another piece of equipment.
Anyways I am not sure if I will make this a routine for me. I have 2 boys that live across the street that I know would love to mow the lawn for a little cash. I just had to do it at least once so I could say that I could do it.
And contrary to my exes predictions no limbs were chopped off and nothing was blown up

Congrats to mowing your lawn. I don't mow the lawn alot but know that feeling of "crap do I really have to do this". Here is my little story of mowing the lawn while Dustin was gone for three weeks.
So after Dust left I was letting the dogs out off the deck on our second story not going into the back yard at all. About a week and a half after he was gone I opened the door on the back of our garage and low and behold my grass was over a foot tall. So the next night when I got off work I went and put my grungy clothes on and went to mow the lawn. Having 1/3 of an acre Dust and I own a ride on mower, so things should be easy. But when your grass is a foot tall its not. The mower kept bauging down and dieing. So I get about 1/4 of the way through the yard and a belt brakes on the mower and the blade won't engage. So then I go and get the push mower and realize its out of gas. Of course since Dustin did a road trip he took the only two gas cans we own. So I call his friend and be brings me gas and I am stuck mowing the lawn with the push mower until 9:45pm. My neighbor came over and helped move the trampoline and entertain my girls until I finished, Rylee wanted me to hold her while I pushed the mower. I was sooooo tired when I finish but we had to run to Cold Stone to get ice cream because I felt we deserved it.
So I am definately one who knows your pain and suffering of mowing the lawn and yes those little boys across the street will apprecaite the money just as much as you will appreciate them doing it. Good luck!
